How to apply your study abroad scholarships and the DCNE program | March 1, 2023

Dear students,

If you would like to know the general information and plan to participate the DCNE trip to UK and France this Summer, but you don’t know how to submit your applications for joining the trip and applying scholarships, please read the information below.

To get your applications for the trip and scholarships started, please check the Study Abroad application process through the link https://pxstudio.us/document/study-abroad-app-process-2023.pptx and follow the following steps below.

  1. Check the page link below for detailed information about the DCNE-2023 trip and classes including the course info, destinations, scholarships, and cost.

  2. Begin your scholarship applications
    Draft an application essay and send your essay to the Writing Center to polish the essay before submitting your study abroad application to IPP if you need financial aids to support your trip
    Gilman Scholarship (Application Deadline: March 9 > $3000-$5000)

    Eligibility for applying the Gilman Scholarship:
    (1) A US citizen
    (2) A undergraduate student in UTRGV
    (3) A Pell Grant recipient
    IEF Scholarship (Application Deadline: March 3 > $1200)

    Global Citizen Scholarship ($500-$2000)

  3. Submit your study abroad application to ipp@utrgv.edu to join the DCNE-2023 program through the link: https://bit.ly/3WEnIlX
  4. Submit an application to ipp@utrgv.edu for the IEF Scholarship application ($1200)
    You need to submit your application to IPP, then you will be eligible to apply the UTRGV’s IEF scholarship
  5. Apply for a passport book at one of the Post Offices near you or in a city hall of the city where you live if you don’t have one.
    (8 weeks-9 weeks to get the passport)
  6. Enroll in the ARTS-4388 and ARTS-4338 classes after Feb. 27 for the minimester class as it doesn’t require prerequisite
  7. Purchase or rent a camera for the trip as the course project requires everyone to take photos (and video footages) and place images or import clips for finalizing one of the course projects.

About the scholarship applications, IPP will be more than happy to assist you; the first step would be to submit your study abroad application. Please click here to submit the application.

Also, we recommend you apply for the International Education ScholarshipThe application deadline is March 3, 2023; however, this scholarship is based on a first-come, first-served. So, apply as soon as you can!

o   To qualify for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be a UTRGV student.
  • If you are an undergraduate student, you must have completed 30 credit hours and have a current GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • If you are a graduate student, you must have completed 9 credit hours and have a current GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The Course Info of the DCNE Trip

The application deadline will be March 15. If you have more questions about the trip, please let me know. If you have any additional questions about the course info, please check it below.

During the trip,
• Lectures for digital photography and video shooting/editing will be provided through the tours in different places
• A couple of seminars will be arranged in the campus tours in the University of Glasgow and King College
• Key tutorials for each program will be provided through the trip every day
• Recommended cameras and drone for the trip and projects

(1) ARTS-4388: Special Topics Digital Cultural Narratives | CRN: 65340
Open to all UTRGV students for an upper-level art elective without prerequisites.

The Project Setting of ARTS_4388 in Summer

  • Assignment-A: Photo Shooting for Image Retouching and Brochure Design
  • Assignment-B: Video Shooting and Editing for the Story-telling Video
    Students need to complete only one assignment and prepare it to generate the course project which they select
  • Project-A: Travel Journal Brochure (Photoshop & InDesign)
  • Project-B: Travel Journal / Story-Telling Video (Premiere & Optional After Effects)
    Students need to complete only one project for the course through the trip

(2) ARTS-4338 Interactive Design | CRN: 65339

The course is only open to design majors, design minors, and art majors

  1. Exercise: Typesetting and Page Redesign by Using HTML/CSS
  2. Group Project-A: Travel App (XD or Figma)
  3. Group Project-B: Travel Website (XD-Anima or Webflow)
    As a group project, each group has two students, one student designs the travel app and the other student designs the travel website, or both students design the app project and the website project through the trip together.
