Prof. Ping Xu’s Summary of Service (2021-2022)

Posted by: Ping

In the 2021-2022 academic year, I served the School of Art & Design, the local community, UTRGV, and a global design organization.

Service for UTRGV School of Art & Design

In the 2021-2022 academic year, besides joining the department’s monthly faculty meetings, I served on four committees in the School of Art& Design.

CommitteeResponsibility
Director Search CommitteeIn conjunction with other search committee members, I screened candidate materials and interviewed candidates in Spring 2022. Thankfully, we finally hired one candidate from a top-10 candidate application pool. The new School of Art & Design Director, Mr. Ed Pogue, started his duty in Fall 2022.
Scholarship CommitteeIn conjunction with all committee members, I participated in the student work review process and voted for student winners of scholarships.
Graduate CommitteeIn conjunction with all tenure-track and tenured faculty members, I participated in project critique and mid-term and final reviews for our MFA candidates in Fall 2021 and Spring 2022.
Graphic Design Curriculum Development CommitteeWorking with other Graphic Design colleagues, we continually developed some new courses for our program and reviewed prerequisites for each course. Graphic Design faculty meetings were scheduled to solve potential problems for classes and students. Fortunately, the University formally approved our BFA major’s title from Graphic Design to Visual Communication Design in Spring 2022. Students’ enrollment in our design program was improved and will continually increase in the 2022-2023 academic year.

Service for UTRGV Local Community

I did pro bono design work for UTRGV’s IASS Office, such as a collateral campaign design for IASS’s 2022 Lunar New Year Event. For detailed information, please visit
