Student Awards & Winners From PXSTUDIO Classes | AAF-RGV ADDY Award Local Competition | March 4, 2021

The American Advertising Awards is the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, attracting over 40,000 entries every year in local AAF Ad Club competitions. The mission of the American Advertising Awards competition is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising.

Conducted annually by the AAF, the local Ad Club phase is the first of a three-tier, national competition. Concurrently, all across the country, local entrants vie to win ADDY Awards—recognition as the very best in their markets. At the second tier, local ADDY winners compete against winners from other local clubs in one of 15 district competitions. District ADDY winners are then forwarded to the third tier, the national stage of the American Advertising Awards. Entry in your local Ad Club competition is the first step toward winning a national ADDY.

Entering the American Advertising Awards supports the entire advertising industry, because the AAF and its local and district affiliates use the proceeds to enhance advertising through programs such as public service, internships, advocacy groups, advertising education, and consumer awareness.

Selection of the most creative entry in each category is affected by a scoring process in which a panel of judges evaluates all creative dimensions of every entry. A Gold ADDY is recognition of the highest level of creative excellence and is judged to be superior to all other entries in the category. Entries that are also considered outstanding and worthy of recognition receive a Silver ADDY. The number of awards given in each category is determined by the judges, based on the relative quality of work in that category.

Student Division
The Student Division of the American Advertising Awards competition, sponsored by the AAF and Ad 2 National, is a unique national awards program designed specially for college students. Work entered at your local level can move up to the regional and national judging, just like the work entered by professionals across the country.

Applicants must be enrolled full- or part-time in an accredited U.S. educational institution.

Students may submit work developed specifically for this competition or from previous projects or student contests.

Work must be created while the entrant is a student not employed in the advertising industry. Student interns are eligible to enter.

Eleven UTRGV Gold award-winning entries from the AAF-RGV’s local American Advertising Awards Competition were advanced to the ADDY-2021 District-10 Regional Competition. Noemi Garcia and Miroslava Rodriguez for mobile app “City Mobile”. Noemi and Miroslava worked on this app during Professor Ping Xu’s Design Class this semester and participated in the Adobe challenge with this app as well.

There are 15 clubs in the 10th District from Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. There were 233 total entries in the D10 district for the student competition with 50 total medals awarded and only 12 received gold. The gold medal winners will now advance to the National competition. The original local competition had 2300 student entries which was narrowed to 233 advancing to the district level. Over 24 different universities competed for these 50 coveted spots.

The entire design faculty, Elizabeth Berger, Robert Gilbert, Ping Xu, Erika Balogh, Corinne Whittemore and Josie Stoleson, celebrate this success and are very proud of our student’s participation in the local and district competitions. You can see the competition results at:
