Project Description:
Using Photoshop CS6 & Illustrator CS6 to create a collage poster
Project Objective:
Identifying a motif and showcasing your CS6 capabilities
by integrating the technique of image manipulation and digital illustration
Project Theme: Working on a theme that interests you

Project Requirement:
Creating a unique seamless collage-montage-composite poster by putting together multiple photographs and vector-based graphic elements.

Digital Collage is a technique of art production, where the artwork is made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole. The collage should include and combine photographs, vector ribbons, and graphic textures into a single digital canvas.

Shoot images with a specific purpose in mind. Back and forward between Photoshop and Illustrator, you will need to experiment with different techniques, and merge both raster images and vector graphics into one canvas. One good habit to get into is to keep an eye out for interesting backgrounds that can be used later to enhance shots where the subject is interesting but the background is cluttered or bland. When using images and other graphic elements to create a digital collage, a pre-planning is worth the effort and will improve the quality of motif and memories you create.

Project Process:

  1. Choose a theme for your collage project, and use meaningful composite and representation to create a visual narrative around that theme. It is essential that the imagery and graphic elements you choose thematically support your concept.
  2. Shoot and choose interesting photographs.
  3. Correct the color or adjust the tonal range of the selected images that you bring into your composite so that they look natural within their new context.
  4. Create a visual hierarchy (typography + imagery)
  5. Build a focal point
  6. Create a canvas background: Black / White / Solid Color / Textured Image / Gradient-mapped Image / Vector Graphics
  7. Create and insert a QR Code into the composition
  8. Keep the original layered PSD file for further editing, but save the final Illustrator file as a pdf format when you complete
  9. Print the PDF file on 17″ X 22″ Epson Luster Photo Paper or Epson Roll Paper
