The 2014-2015 AIGA/NY Board of Directors represents our chapter’s diverse interests. They work to provide the varied and relevant programming and initiatives we’ve become known for, and they build on the work, commitment, and energy of past boards.

Juliette Cezzar is an Assistant Professor and Associate Director of the BFA Communication Design program at Parsons / The New School, where she was the Director of the BFA Communication Design and BFA Design & Technology programs from 2011-2014. She established her small studio, e.a.d., in 2005. While books anchor the practice, her work has spanned a variety of media for clients such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, RES Magazine, The Museum of Modern Art, Vh1, The New York Times, Eleven Madison Park, and Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Art, and Planning. She is the co-author of Designing the Editorial Experience (Rockport) and author-designer of Office Mayhem (Abrams), Paper Pilot, Paper Captain, and Paper Astronaut (Universe / Rizzoli). She holds an MFA in Graphic Design from Yale University and a professional degree (B. Arch) in Architecture from Virginia Tech.
Manuel Miranda is a designer and owner at MMP, whose recent work includes: exhibition design for the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center at The New School and the New York chapter of the American Institute of Architects; campaigns for New York City, including Office of the Mayor and the Department of Health; publication design for Center for Urban Pedagogy, Red Hook Initiative, and the Urban Justice Center; interactive design for the Nike Foundation; and institutional identity for Van Alen Institute. He is also a critic at the Yale School of Art where he teaches first- and second-year core graphic design studios and previously was a visiting assistant professor in Pratt Institute’s MFA program in communication design. Prior to establishing his own practice, he was an art director and senior designer at 2×4, Inc., and a designer at Brand Integration Group at Ogilvy and Mather. He earned his M.F.A. in graphic design from the Yale School of art and B.A. from The Evergreen State College.

Josh Smith is a designer, writer and creative director. His work has been recognized with acclaim for over a decade and is part of the permanent collection in the national design archives. He writes and lectures on design and is featured widely in local and national press about his work and perspectives on design. Originally from Canada, he worked in environment design at Gottschalk & Ash, before moving to New York to work in branding and a wide array of web, environment and communication design. He was a creative director at the design studio, Hyperakt in Brooklyn, expanding the profile of work to include branding, environment and digital products for large, multinational organizations. In 2014 he began a role at the brand agency, Collins where he leads a wide variety of communication design and branding projects for cultural institutions and large corporations. Some of his clients have included: Google, The United Nations, the International Olympic Committee, Coca Cola, MTV, Target, Unicef, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, NBC and Sesame Street.
Jesse Ragan is an independent typeface designer in Brooklyn. Over the past decade, he has created custom types and lettering for brands, publications, and cultural institutions. He co-founded and teaches for Type@Cooper, a postgraduate certificate program at the Cooper Union. Previously he was a staff designer at Hoefler & Frere-Jones and taught at Pratt Institute. Jesse has collaborated on many retail typefaces, notably Gotham, Archer, Omnes, and Chronicle. Freelance clients include Pentagram, Landor, Reebok, The New York Times, Font Bureau, and House Industries. His work has been recognized by AIGA, Type Directors Club, Brand New Awards, and the Museum of Modern Art. He holds a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design.

David Frisco is the principal of DFD: David Frisco Design, a collaborative design practice with an emphasis on clients with social purpose. He is an Adjunct Professor in the Undergraduate and Graduate Communications Design departments at Pratt Institute. David is Co-Creative Director of Design Corps at Pratt Institute, a pro-bono design program for non-profits, and Co-Coordinator of Public Project, a GradComD Initiative bringing public engagement opportunities to students. David founded IntraCollaborative, a socially minded design collective comprised of Pratt MFA graduates. Clients include desigNYC, Center for Urban Pedagogy and AIA/NY Center for Architecture and Glynwood. David holds an MFA in Graphic Design from Yale School of Art and a BFA in Graphic Design from University of Illinois at Chicago. Before heading out east, David was a Senior Designer at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago.
