– Steve Jobs
It is my belief that design execution skills come from personal experiences, while cutting-edge designs come from developed ideation and exploring new techniques. Our individual professional experience enhances our execution skills and aesthetic awareness. As a designer and an educator, my awareness of teaching of design has been enhanced because of my previous professional experiences.
Graphic design, as it is currently practiced, is multi-faceted: commercial, academic, professional, service-oriented, artistic, experimental, and so forth. The task of graphic design includes the process of visualizing information in variety of forms. Today’s process and methodology for visual communicators have changed considerably due to the widespread use of computer graphics in print, video, film, data visualization, 2D/3D animations, app, game, and web design. Designers need a solid background and understanding of traditional skills and contemporary techniques. Personally, I explore visual language from different cultures by using both traditional and emerging digital media. I also continue to explore how Eastern and Western design influence one another.
A designer and educator needs to pursue new technologies and pursue creative ideas. Inspiration + imagination = innovation. Experience and new technologies have been important to my career. Steve Jobs has mentioned that Design is not just what it looks like and feels like, Design is also how it works. User-centered Design must work on multiple levels to be successful. In the future, my teaching and creative research will be guided by sound methodology to solve user centered design issues.
