For a round-trip flight between McAllen and London, there are several airports and flight options to consider:

  1. Departure from McAllen:
    • McAllen International Airport (MFE) is the primary airport serving the McAllen area. It offers domestic flights and connections to major hubs.
  2. Arrival in London:
    • London Heathrow Airport (LHR) is one of the main international airports in London and offers numerous flight options and connections.

When searching for flights, it’s advisable to use travel comparison websites or booking platforms such as Travelocity, Cheapoair, Priceline, Google Flights, Skyscanner, or Expedia. These platforms allow you to filter and compare various flight options based on price, duration, and layovers.

Additionally, consider the following tips:

  • Look for direct flights or those with minimal layovers to ensure a smoother travel experience.
  • Check for any airline alliances or partnerships that may offer convenient flight connections.
  • Be mindful of the departure and arrival times to align with program schedules and transportation arrangements.

Given that our study abroad trip is scheduled from July 12th to July 29th, 2024, it would be advisable to depart from McAllen on July 11th to ensure arrival in London ahead of the program start date. Similarly, departing from London on July 29th aligns with the conclusion of the program. This allows sufficient time for travel and ensures participation in all scheduled activities.

Please check the following questions with answers. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to let us know. To prepare for your London trip, we recommend bringing the following suggested items:

  1. Comfortable walking shoes: London is a city best explored on foot, so make sure to pack comfortable shoes to navigate the streets and attractions.
  2. Weather-appropriate clothing: London weather can be unpredictable, so pack layers and clothing suitable for both rain and shine. Don’t forget an umbrella or a waterproof jacket.
  3. Power adapter and converter: Ensure your electronics stay charged by bringing a power adapter compatible with UK outlets. If your devices are not compatible with the voltage in the UK (240 volts), consider bringing a voltage converter as well.
  4. Portable charger/power bank: Keep your devices charged on the go, especially if you’ll be out and about exploring all day.
  5. Shutter release cable (optional) that matches your camera and a UV filter that matches your camera lens.
  6. Two memory cards, a card reader, camera battery, and battery charger should be packed alongside a laptop and optionally, a 1TB external hard drive.
  7. Travel guidebook or maps: While smartphones are handy for navigation, having a physical map or guidebook can be useful for planning your itinerary and finding attractions off the beaten path.
  8. Travel-sized toiletries: Pack travel-sized toiletries to save space in your luggage and comply with TSA regulations if you’re flying.
  9. Travel documents: Don’t forget your passport, travel insurance information, hotel reservations, and any other necessary travel documents. It’s also a good idea to have digital copies stored securely online or in a separate location in case of loss or theft.
  10. Portable water bottle: Stay hydrated while sightseeing by bringing a refillable water bottle that you can fill up at water fountains or restaurants throughout the city.
  11. Daypack or small backpack: Carry your essentials comfortably with a lightweight daypack or small backpack while exploring the city.
  12. Daily medication: When traveling, if you require medication for your daily life, always pack it in your carry-on luggage rather than checked baggage. This ensures continuous access to your medication and minimizes the risk of loss or delay.
