Jam Challenge Brief

Election news is accessible today in ways that were unimaginable even just a decade ago. With the rise of technology, sources, and outlets, it is becoming increasingly more challenging to know what political information is reliable, credible, and what or who should be trusted.

Your challenge is to design a user-centric mobile-first experience that increases trust and credibility in election content, in some way, for readers. Consider a visual or functional experience that confirms that news, polls, and outcomes are trustworthy to users.

Possible features might include:

  • A way to check if content originates from a trusted source
  • A reader portal for credible news and video
  • Visual cues to verify trustworthiness
  • A way to share trusted articles only
  • An algorithm promoting on veracity rather than popularity

Recommendations to get started

  • Begin with paper and pencil to sketch out areas of content and navigation.
  • Save login and splash screens for later in your process.
  • Work on concept and function first, and then adhere to a visual design system as much as possible. Use UI kits and wireframe elements to layout content to test flows faster.
  • Use relevant copy in areas where context must be understood; the concept and purpose must be clearly understood without too much explanation.
  • Look comprehensively at the app functionality, navigation, readability, and visual hierarchy before coming up with a name. However, the app name is important to generate interest in it for potential users.

Project Requirements

evaluation QUESTIONS

Projects are evaluated and scored on the following four questions, which will make up the content of your 150-word abstract:

  • Does the solution address a target audience and their needs?
  • Does the prototype solve the problem in an innovative way?
  • Is the user experience and interface intuitive?
  • Is visual design used in a thoughtful and meaningful way?

See the scoring rubric for more details.

Prototype SPECS

  • Create a mobile app. Your team may design either for iOS or Android, and select the appropriate template when opening a new file in Adobe XD.
  • App must include 15 or more unique screens connected together. This encourages you to build out more of the app’s functionality to capture a more realistic user flow.
  • Created during the event time period and not be derived from previously created work.
