Chinese Name Creating & Seal Making in China | Study Abroad / Summer Minimester – 2016

Posted by: Ping

One of the most meaningful parts of experiencing Chinese culture during the Study Abroad Trip in China is to have a Chinese seal. Chinese seal is typically made of stone and used with red ink or cinnabar paste. Also, it contains Chinese characters to prove identity on documents, contracts, art, or similar items where authorship is considered important.

UTRGV students received a tailor-made seal with their Chinese name which was based on the similar pronunciation or implied meaning of students’ original names. The students from College of Fine Arts of Hengyang Normal University made the seals for our students. We will continually involve this kind of experiment to one of the program activities in our study abroad China trips in the future.
