New Majors Seminar – Fall 2014 Cultural Event Attendance ::: “Write-up” Guidelines :::

Posted by: Ping

You are asked to attend 5 cultural events* that take place on campus. Events sponsored by the School of Arts and Letters or any of its departments (Art, Music, Theater, Classical and Modern Languages, English) will probably qualify, as will many other campus events.
I have posted several cultural event links down below. If you have questions about whether or not an event will “count,” please contact me in advance.

Each Cultural Event write-up required is worth 30 points. The evaluation of these write-ups will be based on: following the prescribed format and directions, completeness of write-up, depth of your reflection about the event, and timeliness (turned in within one week).

  • You must turn in 3 of your 5 required cultural events write-ups no later than October 29
  • You must turn in 2 of your 5 required cultural events write-ups no later than December 3

How to do a “Write-up”

To make this as simple as possible, please follow the format provided below.
You should do your write-ups on a word processor.

  • Your Name/class/semester:
  • Event Attended/date/time:
  • Estimated Number of attendees:
  • Brief Description of the Event: (just a sentence or two)

Your opinion of the event: (Was this event of value to you?  Did you enjoy it…did it cause you to react positively or negatively…was it well done/effective, etc?  Again, several sentences will suffice.)

What was the most important thing you got from attending the event? (A concise paragraph will do.)

How and Where to turn in your Write-up

Please turn in your write-up within a week of the event.  You MUST turn in your write-up to my mailbox in the Art Department Office, OP 1109 during regular hours (M-F 8:00am – 5:00pm). Hard copies only are accepted – no electronic copies as attachments to an email!  Do NOT slide your Write-ups under my office door – they will not be accepted (and may get tossed by the custodian). Do NOT give me your write-ups in person (including during class).
