Cars

Often when planning a trip to Rome the idea of zipping around the city on a motorized scooter seems more than a little enticing, and can be a very fun option. However, scooters are not for eveeryone, due to the fast-paced nature of Roman transportation, if you are not an already experienced motor cyclist or scooter rider you should consider alternative transportation. If you do have experience riding motor cycles or motorized scooters, a vespa rental could be a great option for your transportation needs. Rental fees satrt as low as $60. Is Public transportation Available?

Yes! Public transportation can be a very efficent and inexpensive transportation option during your time in the eternal city. Rome has an extensive underground rail system along with city busses and trams. The railway will get you near almost any popular tourists destination on one of its two lines. Romes busses and trams will be able to travel to even more specific locations and get you to where you need to go. Single or multiple day passes can be purchased according to you travel needs. Are Attractions within Walking Distance?

Yes! Depending on your hotel location, there are many popular attractions that are in walking distance. Additonally, if your hotel is further away your can always take the merto to the city center and walk from there. Rome on foot is a fabulous option, you can explore at your own pace. Once in the city center, meandering is a fine option; it's easy to navigate and there are many historical points of interest. However, if you feel like your navigation skills are not up to par on their own, you can always purchase a touring guide book or street map that are sure to point you in the right direction!

If you do choose to take your trip on foot, there are a few standard precautions to take. As with an large tourist destination, you will need to be mindful of where you keep your money and personal belongings as there are pick pockets. Small cross body bags that can be securely attached to you and or under clothing pouches that store flat items such as cash, credit cards, and passports are both very good items to consider utilizing. Also utilizing the buddy system is key when traveling. It is much safer to travel alongside someone else so that you are not tageted by pick pockets. Also using commin sense during night evenings is crucial.
