     Volunteering with can be a great way to network, to attend chapter events at no charge, and to give back to your community.

 

MENTOR PROGRAM

   Calling all makers, creators, thinkers, writers, designers, leaders: join us. Learn new skills while teaching old ones. Connect with like-minded professionals—and help connect like-minded professionals. Reach your true potential by helping others reach theirs.

 

What it is

     The AIGA Chicago Mentorship Program is a celebrated gathering of creative people from across disciplines and industries to share insights, experiences and resources while making new connections, exchanging inspiration and even collaborating on a project or two. It’s an amazing way to get more involved in Chicago’s rich creative community and to gain greater access to the wealth of professional opportunities it has to offer.

 

 How it works

     Seasonal sessions are held over the course of two to four months, with a total of eight – ten meetings per session. Participants work in groups comprising a spectrum of creative fields and career levels, organized by shared interest:

- Working on Professional Development

- Improving Your Resume and Portfolio

- Hanging Out with Peers

- Being a Better Freelancer

- Working on a Group Project

 

Past meetings have included studio tours, designer talks, portfolio reviews and even a Friendsgiving potluck. Participants have hung out at each other’s homes and offices, shared success stories at coffee shops, teamed up at letterpress workshops and collaborated on events for the entire Chicago community.

     Interested in joining the program? Hit up AIGA Chicago’s Mentorship Chair, Monina Velarde, at monina@chicago.aiga.org for more information or to jump right in. The spring session begins March 9th 2015. If a session is already underway, no big deal—we’ll just add your name to the notification list for the next round. You can always keep up with the program via Facebook or Tumblr. By the way, the program is free for AIGA members and non-members alike.
