China, A Photographic Journey 2017 International Photography Exhibition in China
November 3 – November 12, 2017

Visual Art Gallery of College of Fine Arts / Hengyang Normal University, China
Label Information:

This exhibition samples student and faculty work from Study Abroad China, 2017. Students visited Beijing, Hunan Province and Shanghai. The group photographed the Great Wall at sun set and sun rise in a secluded rural setting. They photographed professional models in the lighting studio at Hengyang Normal University. They traveled from mountain preserves, to ancient communities, to city centers with populations so dense that it strains the imagination.

The exhibition also contains photographs from the “English Camp Program” in Taiwan. In this program students taught conversational English and American culture to Taiwanese grade and junior high school students. They lived with host families during their stay, becoming fully immersed in the culture.

Some of the photographs in this exhibition have been worked in Photoshop to reflect the dream like qualities that one may experience while traveling the different visual and cultural environments, of the country as vast as China. The mystery and pleasure of travel is realizing the strangeness, and at the same time the sameness of foreign environments, as it relates to our home country.
