Dear students:

Truman Study Abroad Office and Center for International Education offer students a study abroad opportunity, plus an internship for Viscomm students, in summer of 2015 in China. It is a six-week summer study program in Beijing, Xian, and Shanghai, China. Professor Julie Minn and I will lead the team to China.

Students may participate without prior knowledge of Chinese language. Viscomm major students will join an internship in one of top ten world leading advertising agencies Shanghai branch, such as TBWA or McCann Erickson.

About the course credit for Viscomm students, you may seek two credit hours on Mandarin Chinese every morning class in Shanghai University Monday through Friday, and 5 credit hours on internship every afternoon Monday through Friday. (Note: 5-credit hour on internship is Truman’s minimum requirement). If you want to have more information about the two agencies, you could visit the internship category of my blog, or simply google TBWA Worldwide and McCann Worldgroup.

If you are a non-art major, you may join Professor Minn’s regular group for 6 credit hours. The course title is CHN-310. A grade of study abroad and/or internship will be listed on your official transcript after the trip. I will keep you posted if anything changes.

The entire team will depart from St. Louis on May 20, and arrive Beijing on May 21. After spending 5 days in Beijing, we will visit Xi’an and stay there about three days. We will take a night train to Shanghai and arrive Shanghai on June 1. Shanghai is the largest Chinese city and the last stop in Mainland China. We will return to the States on June 30 unless you wish to join the English camp in Taiwan.

If you need more information about the trip, please read the program description below, or inquire Prof. Julie Minn directly.
