Still life objects are very good subject matter to begin with when learning to draw. You have complete control over the arrangement and lighting of your items since still life articles are usually drawn indoor.

The Set-up

You may want to draw your subjects from sight, or you may decide to take photo from which to work. Whatever method you choose, the set-up is very important. Experiment with the placement of objects, arrange them in different groupings until you arrive at just the right combination.
