International Contemporary Artists Vol XI
“Surname Seminar Poster” (Event & Typography Poster) / Graphic Designer: Ping Xu
Chinese surnames are used by Han Chinese in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, Vietnam and among overseas Chinese communities. Throughout most of Chinese history, surnames have served sociological functions. Because of their association with the aristocratic elite in their early developments, surnames were often used as symbols of nobility.
In my “Surname Seminar Poster”, I used Chinese characters for typography. The surname seminar poster was designed for Shanghai Folk Museum in 2007. The poster design received an American Advertising Federation ‐ ADDY Professional Award in 2007.
