Project-1A: AIGA Magazine

Posted by: Ping

A magazine unlike a book is a “warehouse” of texts, produced by editors, designers and advertisers, it creates an environment of truly mixed speech. Because of this collaboration and multiple voices, magazines can represent a strong challenge. The key for your magazine will be how can you create your idea, interest, format, and architecture, how can you attract people to read, and how can you design the magazine a voice.

Project Requirement:
1. Using Adobe InDesign CS6 and Illustrator CS6 to create an AIGA journal magazine.
2. Designing a multiple page layout project.
3. Utilizing type as main elements or units, illustrations or photos as assistant elements.
4. Creating a brand new name for your AIGA magazine’s masthead.
5. Creating a composition for your magazine cover (front and back)
(adding the AIGA black logo into the cover composition)
6. Type-setting a table of content page.
7. Utilizing advanced typographic hierarchy and assistant illustrated elements to design four department pages.
8. Utilizing advanced typographic hierarchy to design four feature story pages.
(limit each layout within three typefaces)
9. Designing a magazine ad page or an ad spread
(for example: paper company’s product ads or stock image agency’s ads)
10. Redesigning and converting the traditional magazine to an iPad magazine.
